sustainability

Sustainable architecture seeks to minimize the negative environmental impact of buildings by enhancing efficiency and moderation in the use of materials, energy, and development space.

CO2 Footprint
Climate change is increasingly recognised as a major challenge, and it is widely accepted that the greenhouse gas emissions caused by humans are having a negative impact on the environment. The total set of greenhouse gas emissions caused directly and indirectly by an individual, organisation, event or product is commonly called their ‘carbon footprint’. Calculating the carbon footprint of an organisation can be the first step in a programme to reduce the emissions it causes.
In April 2008 legislation came into force which means that new buildings, major refurbishments and large public buildings throughout England and Wales must have an energy certificate to rate the energy performance of the building.

Unique Data works to prepare EPCs in association with architects, property developers, building professionals, owner occupiers and commercial clients in the United Kingdom to provide sustainable and innovative Mechanical Services, Electrical Services and Sustainable engineering design solutions across the construction sector.

Unique Data incorporates energy efficiency and sustainability utilising the latest industry technologies. We offer a dedicated calculation service (EPC Certificates, SBEM Calculations, Part L) to determine the environmental impacts and performances of non-domestic buildings in the UK market.

Heating

Burning fossil fuels to heat our homes or produce electricity releases carbon emissions, which cause climate change. The energy you use at home is likely to be your biggest contribution to climate change. 80 per cent of it goes on heating and hot water, so this is a good place to look for savings.

The most important and cost effective element of an efficient heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) system is a well insulated building.

From 7th April 2006 as well as new build residential structures, all conservatories greater then 30m², extensions, and other new residential structures that are being added to an existing building, require a SAP Calculation.

Electrical
Electrical systems are defined graphically using Hevacomp’s Connect package. An extensive database of manufacturers’ protective devices (including adjustable devices), cable and busbar data is provided. Boards, loads, busbars and multiple supply points are displayed graphically on screen.
Device selection and cable sizing is carried out to ensure compliance with IEE 16th Edition Wiring Regulations. Volt drop, earth loop impedance, disconnection times, short circuit calculations and discrimination checks are automatically performed.

Unique Data is a specialist thermographic inspection company, which has developed methods for thermal imaging, acquiring, processing and reporting on whole building envelope thermal imaging & integrity.
After heating, lighting can be one of the most costly and eco-unfriendly energy drains in a building. Unique Data is committed to energy-efficient cost-effective lighting solutions for commercial premises.

Under floor heating is not a new concept it was first used by the Romans, they understood the benefits of invisible radiant heating. In some European countries it accounts for 70% of new heating installations and today more and more people are choosing to either build it into new homes or to use it to improve their existing homes.
